Our Medical Qigong Level 1 November class started yesterday evening the 9th November 2023, and it went really well. The lesson started with some interesting history and theories of Qigong and the Medical Qigong, followed by half of the movements teaching and real-time practising together. Erica was very meticulous with the accuracy of movements, which are not only crucial to the effectiveness of this exercise as a self-treatment method, but also to avoid unnecessary adverse effects too. 'My teacher was as strict like this to us when I was learning from her', said Erica.

Erica's teacher, Dr Li, Qiduan was the head of Chinese Qigong Committee during the 1980s and 1990s, the most popular time of Qigong practice in China when about 0.1 billion of the population were practicing some kind of Qigong. She later became the deputy chairman for the World's Medical Qigong Committee (set up by the Chinese Ministry of Health). After the Qigong practice was banned in mainland China by the government due to political reason, Dr Li moved to Germany and continued to research and promte various Qigong there, and accumulated large amount of clinical data and effect of different types of Qigong . She said out of all the medical Qigoing, this type of medical Qigong has three outstanding advantages which makes it the first choice of Qigong to practice for medical reasons:

  • The first is it's very easy to learn and practice

  • The 2nd, is that it's suitable for all age groups from 7-90 years old

  • The 3rd, is that it's effective for the biggest variety of health conditons

In the 80s and 90s, Chinese Qigong Committee investigated countless Qigong practices, and the committee approved this Qigong to be promoted as Medical Qigong. With the 3000 clinical cases submitted with the application, which were all registered with hospitals and authenticated, the Medical Qigong demonstrated itself successfully treating over 360 different types of diseases. To broadly describe these diseases in 5 big groups, they are:

Physical benefits: Firstly, medical Qigong level 1 movements are all on the upper half of the body, therefore it directly benefits physical parts like the neck, shoulder, chest, and upper back. Secondly, it benefits the organs and relevant meridians that relate to the upper half of the body.

Respiratory and Skin conditions: Respiratory allergy, Asthma, Hay Fever, Common Cold, the novice Long Covid, Atopic Eczema, Psoriasis, Shingles …

Cardiovascular conditions: Tachycardia, irregular heartbeat, slow heart pulse, mild heart disease, e.g. tight chest, shortness of breath, stabbing pain in throat and shoulders, hypo or hypertension …

Gastrointestinal: Mild gastritis, chronic stomach problems, flatulence, constipation, diarrhoea, IBS (although some of these conditions will need the level 2 Xianggong to irradicate if they are related to the Spleen or Liver organs disorders in Chinese Medicine terms…)

Nervous and mental conditions: Sleeping disorder, anxiety, migraine, MS, epilepsy, post-stroke pain, Parkinson's disease …

After students practiced level 1 for a couple fo months, there will be level 2 taught as part of the course plan. Level 2 will be stimulateing the meridians and acupoints of the lower half of body, and benefitial to different types of health conditons from Level 1, as well as ensuring the longer effect from Level 1, from symptom relases to reduce of recurrance, because the lower organs are often the root cause of many diseases.
