Lotus Alliance Wellbeing C.I.C. is a self-sufficient Community Interest (not-for-profit) Company.
It has three main objectives:

Firstly, promoting the philosophy of Chinese Medicine well-being within the community, and teaching self-management practices such as Qigong and Taichi exercises, self-treatment methods, and lifestyle guidance. Our weekly guided park exercise every Saturday at London Road Recreation Ground is free to join. You can also find free lifestyle advice, dietary wisdom, self-care techniques, and health tips based on Chinese Medicine on our blog page. In the near future, we plan to produce some social media video clips for those health tips and mini exercises etc..

Secondly, offering clinical services to individuals seeking treatment or general health maintenance. We operate under three clinic models: a general Chinese Medicine Clinic for common conditions, a Beauty and Well-being Clinic, and a Specialist Clinic – all located at the same address. Each clinic uses Chinese Medicine modalities, including for beauty therapies. The Specialist Clinic is dedicated to treating difficult, rare, stubborn, complex, or unclassified health conditions. Our third objective is to support the well-being of elderly individuals living alone. We offer free acupuncture treatments four times a year to individuals over 70 who live alone. In addition, we host a weekly lunch group at our premises for socialising. Homemade Chinese meals are served in a warm, friendly atmosphere with Erica and fellow elderly participants.

The idea of forming a Community Interest Company began when Erica personally experienced a health scare and recognized the critical importance of health and prevention. When she enrolled in acupuncture college in 2018, she made a life-changing decision to dedicate herself to promoting Chinese Medicine and enhancing the health of British residents through its practices and philosophy. The inspiration to support elderly individuals living alone came from a BBC programme she watched in 2015 about the lives of single-living elderly people in Britain.

Before graduating in 2022, she converted her limited trading company into a CIC and committed fully to a lifelong mission of improving the health of British communities through Chinese Medicine and supporting the well-being of the local elderly living alone.

Why Chinese Medicine
​
The philosophy of Chinese Medicine emphasizes that maintaining health is more important than treating disease. Over the past 5,000 years, Chinese Medicine has not only evolved into a systematic, advanced, and mature medical science, but has also developed a wealth of health wisdom known as Yangsheng (养生), which includes lifestyle management, dietary principles, exercise, and self-care practices. Since the time of the renowned Chinese classic Huangdi Neijing (with the Yellow Emperor said to have lived between 2717–2599 BC, and the text compiled during the Han Dynasty around 200 AD), Yangsheng—meaning “nourishing life” or “preserving wellness”—has remained a central health principle and is deeply embedded in Chinese culture.
Chinese Medicine views the body as an interconnected system in which the body, mind, and spirit are inseparable. It is therefore considered a holistic form of medicine. Optimal health relies on achieving balance and harmony among these elements. Practitioners use a range of diagnostic methods—including pulse and tongue analysis, as well as questioning, face reading—to assess patients and develop personalized treatment plans. Therapies such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, and Qigong are then applied to address the root causes of illness and restore the body’s natural balance.

In contrast to Chinese Medicine, Western medicine is rooted in scientific principles and evidence-based practices. It focuses on diagnosing and treating specific diseases and conditions using pharmaceuticals, surgery, and advanced medical technologies. Western medicine has made remarkable progress in acute care and emergency treatment. Its capabilities in surgical intervention, infectious disease management, and the use of sophisticated diagnostic testing and imaging technologies are areas where Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is missing.

From the above, it's clear that Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Western medicine represent two distinct approaches to healthcare, each with its own strengths and philosophical foundations. So why not combine the two? In many Asian regions and some Western countries—such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Germany, Switzerland, and the United States—modern healthcare systems are increasingly recognizing the benefits of integrating both approaches. In China, nearly all medical students are trained in both TCM and Western medicine, enabling them to understand and appreciate both disciplines.

While studying at acupuncture college, Erica made a heartfelt wish: that one day, every British person would have two doctors by their side—one Western doctor and one Chinese Medicine doctor. As someone of Chinese origin living in the UK, she made it her mission to help bring this vision to life and bridge the gap between East and West. But before this big dream comes to reality, she needs to make the community aware of Chinese Medicine and truely benefit from it.

How to achieve this? First and foremost, through prevention. Erica is passionate about equipping local UK residents with basic knowledge and practical tips from Chinese Medicine to help them maintain their health in daily life. She offers free well-being tips and weekly community exercise classes, sharing lifestyle guidance, Qigong practices, acupoint and meridian self-treating techniques, and home-use moxibustion. Some of this information is available on the blog page of our website. Over the times, Erica is also planning to produce video clips to broadcast on social media platforms to make them more accessible to the community.
In addition to her general health Chinese Medicine clinic, Erica is trying to establish a specialist Chinese Medicine clinic, bringing together some of the most experienced TCM doctors in the UK to support those suffering from difficult health issues that Western medicine reached its limit. Her hope is that, by demonstrating Chinese medicine able to act as the missing piece of jigsaw in the conventional medicine, one day within her lifetime, her dream of both healthcare systems would be brought together under the unified management of the NHS.

Why Choose Single - Living Elderly?

As a Community Interest Company (CIC), we also dedicate our efforts to supporting the well-being of elderly individuals who live alone or experience emotional isolation. The inspiration for this initiative began in 2015, when Erica watched a BBC documentary produced by the charity The Silver Line, which highlighted the lives of the UK's single-living elderly. One statement from the program stood out: “Some of these elderly live behind closed doors 24/7. Their only friend is the TV!” Deeply moved, Erica made a personal commitment to do something meaningful for this vulnerable and often overlooked group.​
Lotus Clinics offers free acupuncture treatments four times a year to individuals over 70 who live alone. These treatments are provided over a four-week period and can be used for addressing specific health conditions or for general wellness and maintenance.

Inspired by the NHS Shared Lives Scheme—which involves opening up private homes to people with special needs—Erica is planning to open her own home to single-living and emotionally isolated elderly individuals. Her aim is to offer them a warm, family-like environment while supporting their health through the benefits of an Asian diet and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
