Daoyin Anqiao (DYAQ) has about 2000 years of history, and is one of the 5 main Chinese medicine treatments methods. The other ones are Chinese Herbal Medicine, Acupuncture, Moxibustion, and Stone Needle. DYAQ was regarded in Huangdi Neijing (the most famous Chinese Medicine classics compiled in Han Dynasty about 2000 years ago) as the most advanced treatment method because this treatment doesn’t rely on any external tools hence safe and flexible. It guides patients’ own Qi to regulate the meridians and organs and stimulates patients’ self-healing ability to restore health.

Daoyin Anqiao is made of two words. In general, Daoyin means guiding the Qi to return to the centre or balance. It's another name for Qigong basically. Anqiao means pressing or massaging. But DaoyinAnqiao together is a term for a specific Chinese medicine treatment.

During the treatment, a middle finger is gently and continuously resting on a chosen acupoint, pointing in certain directions. It looks very effortless and elegant (see picture on the right), but the effect is often powerful. The treatment can be carried out by patients or families themselves with minimal training, but for slightly more complex situation the diagnosis and point prescription need to be done by a nadvanced practitioner.

Different from acupuncture, the point selection of DYAQ is very minimal but elite, normally no more than 3 points in each session. Its point location is often slightly different from acupuncture too. Each treatment session typically takes about an hour. It can be used to treat not only chronic diseases but some acute or serious conditions as well. It is also a very good method for maintaining health and for disease prevention. During the pandemic lockdown, DYAQ played important roles and was given the name ‘one-finger magic’ in China and some Western countries.

Below are two most famous representatives of DYAQ in Chinese history, physicians Bianque and Huatuo.

During its long history in China, DYAQ had been popular in the Royal families many times. However, due to several historical incidents, DYAQ went hidden in Taoism and in folks. The last time DYAQ emerged in the emperor family was in the ‘Kangxi Period’ in Qing Dynasty. After that, it was hidden again following another historical incident. Since then it became a secret method known only by certain people.

Dr Fu, Qinzeng, whose family carried the secrets of DYAQ linearly was awarded the Representative of Inheritance of DYAQ by Chinese government, and he registered a patent for DYAQ as an official Chinese medicine treatment method, in order to preserve and promote this ancient treasure of humankind. From the 1980s, Dr Fu was often invited to treat various Chinese and foreign government leaders with this amazing medicine. Prior to Dr Fu’s generation, the family followed the strict rule which was only passing on DYAQ to one male per generation, normally the eldest son or eldest grandson. When it came to Dr. Fu’s time this special treatment nearly faced extinction. Dr. Fu decided to break the family rule and let the whole world benefit from this treatment method. Starting from 2006, invited by Dr Li, Qiduan, secretary of the World Medical Qigong Committee, Dr Fu and his wife trained the first generation of doctors and teachers of DYAQ in Germany. Now in Germany, DYAQ is a quite well-known therapy, with some clinics specializing in this treatment.

Before Dr Fu passed away he taught everything he knew to his wife Master Mao, and told her to continue their dream of teaching this method to the whole world. From 2021, Master Mao, now the heir of DYAQ started to teach practitioners in Europe and north America. Lotus Clinics owner Erica Chen had the honour to learn from Master Mao, also she invited Master Mao to be the guest doctor at Lotus Clinic, to carry out remote diagnosis for UK patients. Erica Chen does the face-to-face consultation, takes pictures, prepares and sends a report to Master Mao in China, who would then prescribe the points for Erica to either carry out the treatment for patients or train the patients and their families to carry out the treatments at the comfort of their own homes.

As a C.I..C company, it is our goal to teach local residents some basic Chinese Medicine philosophy and self-treating techniques to safeguard their own health, including DYAQ, acupressure, moxibustion, and Qigong exercise etc.
